October 1, 2017— Football weather finally arrived Friday, and with it came another challenge for the Griffins: the #3 ranked Vikings and a powerful rushing attack.
The tone of the game was set early when the Griffin defense stuffed NIU-bound Justin Hall. Hall is a talented runner who had Griffs in his grill often before he had the ball. Friday’s run-suffocating defense was reminiscent of week two when the Griffins held another NIU-bound runner, Maine South’s Fotis Kokosioulis, to 15 yards on 15 rushes. All I’m going to say is the NIU Huskies do not want to rush the ball against the #Eastside defense.
On offense East’s first possession resulted in a Morrissey-to-Henning touchdown reception. The early lead enabled the Griffins offense to do what they love to do most: pound the ball. Scianna to the right. Morrissey to the left. Scianna to the left. Morrissey to the right. Drop in a pass to Pallisard. The O-line just keeps movin’ their feet and drivin’ with their legs. And while all that’s going on, Henning is lined up out wide or in motion ready to run the ball: would you want to defend against that?
Next up the Griffins host Lockport at 7:00 pm on October 6th.
